Collection: The Unattainables
In the words of Mollie Beattie, former Director of the US Fish and Wildlife Service "What a country chooses to save is what a country chooses to say about itself.” This series of small still life oil paintings on panel, superficially is a simple catalog of all the things we chose to gather and hoard during the early days of the COVID pandemic.
Painted during the pandemic on quickly gathered panels before lockdown, the growing collection raises questions: what is the catalog saying about us? What were we chasing?... Certainty, control, usefulness, worthiness? What does it say about our collective psyche, our relationship with our communities, our relationships with ourselves?
